Pioneer's Pathway

Kate Ferguson January 31, 2021

In 2020, I had the pleasure and privilege of producing audio interviews for the Pioneer’s Pathway; which feature in audio booths at the Newcastle Goal in Toodyay, Slater Homestead in Goomalling and the Mangowine Homestead in Nungarin.

I’m excited to say the audio booth has been installed at the Newcastle Goal in Toodyay. It contains interviews with locals about the history of the region, including a spine tingling Welcome to Country by Sharmaine Miles (pictured).

The stories also feature the tale of Moondyne Joe (who inspired the gaol being built ) and a hilarious recount from a local who spent the night sleeping in the gaol on his lonesome.

Speaking of lonesome, I had the privilege of staying at Slater Homestead (pictured above) for a couple of nights by myself. It has a surprisingly welcoming vibe (well, for me anyway… haha).
